ICYMI: National University survived University of Santo Tomas for a 67-57 win in the second round of the UAAP Season 85 men’s basketball tournament Sunday, Nov. 20, at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

John Lloyd Clemente finished with 19 points apart from four rebounds including a 4-of-7 shooting from the outside to improve 9-3 in the standings and help secure a playoff spot for the Bulldogs in the Final Four for the first time after seven years.NU had to regain its scoring touch after trailing 11 points in the first half for a 10-point turnaround at the end of regulation.

Down by two after Joshua Garing’s layup off a UST fast break, 62-54, with 6:34 in the contest, NU unleashed a 12-0 run capped by Clemente’s triple from the corner which was enough to come out on top for a 10-point advantage. After countless unanswered baskets, Nic Cabanero fired a three-pointer to cut the deficit by seven with only half a second to spare. “Kailangan namin mag-ensayo bukas. We have to be ready against La Salle, [on our] last two games in the second round. Di lang naman Final Four tina-target namin dito. Same routine, bad win for us [pero] at least naka-survive.
