Infectious diseases expert Dr. Rontgene Solante said Wednesday the Philippines does not need to tighten its border restrictions for travelers anew because of the current COVID-19 surge in China.

Interviewed on Dobol B TV, Dr. Rontgene Solante said among the reasons why COVID-19 infections are rising again in China is that many of their elderly population are not yet fully vaccinated and boosted against the virus.

“I don’t think we need drastic measures here in terms of border control because of what’s happening in China,” he added. He said he thinks the Philippines will not experience the same COVID-19 surge in China, unless new variants of concern aside from Omicron are detected.
