Steven Cua, president of PAG-ASA which groups 383 supermarkets and grocery stores nationwide, said they are not limiting the volume of products that consumers buy because there is enough supply and prices are stable for all food and household items in their stores.
He said that panic buying actually happened only in two stores two nights ago when the government disclosed new local transmissions of COVID-19.Cua also stressed that its members would cater only to household buyers and not to commercial establishments or resellers.Employees, especially frontline workers are not allowed to wear face masks unless they have cough or colds.
“There is no supply issue of food and goods in the supermarkets for the moment, except alcohol, but we will eventually run out of supply if people will panic buy,” he said.
