Rehabilitation works on the southbound segment, resulting in a smoother driving experience for motorists. With the southbound section complete, the NLEX Corporation will now turn its attention to repairing the northbound segment of the viaduct.
Starting next month, the NLEX Corporation will begin upgrading the portion of the bridge heading to Pampanga. For around six months, 13 priority link slabs that connect bridge deck spans will be replaced in order to provide a more comfortable driving experience for motorists that traverse the 5-km road between Pampanga and Bulacan.
“We always ensure to maintain our assets for the benefit of thousands of motorists plying our expressway. Whether it is above the bridge or under the bridge, we keep on doing the upgrades for the Candaba Viaduct as we want motorists to continue having safe and comfortable travel,” said J. Luigi L. Bautista, president and general manager of NLEX Corporation.
Just like the previous southbound upgrade, NLEX Corporation will again install steel Bailey Bridges to allow cars, vans, small trucks, and buses to cross the repair site safely. In addition, a counterflow lane will be open for affected vehicles and cargo trucks. NLEX will also be deploying additional patrol officers and marshals and even directional traffic signs to help guide motorists as they make their way through the Bailey bridges.
With work set to begin in February, NLEX is asking for patience and understanding from motorists that will be affected as they rehabilitate the northbound section of the viaduct.
