In its omnibus guidelines for the coronavirus released on Tuesday, the agency said domestic tourists and"staycationers" who have no symptoms and are from areas with high prevalence of the disease must undergo testing before they are allowed to travel. However, health officials said they are still talking with experts and transportation officials on how to best determine the COVID-19 prevalence in a city, municipality or province.
The DOH said tourists must take an RT-PCR test and wait for their results while undergoing quarantine at home for 14 days. When they get a negative result, they will be allowed to leave. But if their result is positive, the patients will go straight to a temporary treatment and monitoring facility, the DOH added.
When the tourists arrive at their destination, they will undergo assessment for possible symptoms. Patients with no symptoms may continue with their visit, while those who are symptomatic will be sent to the treatment and monitoring facility for ten days from the date of onset of the symptoms, the guidelines said.
On the other hand, tourists coming from areas with low to mid-prevalence of COVID-19 need not take a RT-PCR test. However, if they show symptoms, the visitors will be sent immediately to a treatment and monitoring facility for a ten-day stay. For those who are returning to their hometowns, protocols will also depend on the prevalence of COVID-19 cases on their point of departure, the department noted.
