MANILA -- The fate of salons and barber shops under the Philippines' "new normal" is being discussed by the country's pandemic response task force, Malacañang said.
The Inter-Agency Task Force will release its decision on grooming services as early as Tuesday, Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said. As restrictions on movement entered the 44th day on Monday, and with the lockdown in Metro Manila and other high-risk areas scheduled to last until May 15, some Filipinos have resorted to cutting their own hair at home and posting their makeovers on social media.
“Iyan po ay dinidiscuss kasi ang problema po diyan sa mga salons, barbero, imposible po ang social distancing diyan unless we have developed scissors na mahabang-mahaba," Roque said.The "new normal" is equivalent to a general community quarantine or GCQ, one notch lower than the enhanced community quarantine of ECQ in the capital.
The GCQ will start in certain areas on May 1, wherein some businesses will be allowed to resume. Under the ECQ, only supermarkets, pharmacies, and food delivery services can operate.
