“Yung mga damage naman hindi natin nakikita na katulad nung mga damage natin dun sa Pampanga at Batanes dahil sa lindol recently,” said National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Executive Director Ricardo Jalad in an interview with DZMM.
The 6.1-magnitude tremor hit Pampanga in April, damaging a belfry of a heritage church and flattening a 4-storey supermarket in Porac. The quake also left over a dozen people dead. Meanwhile, hundreds of limestone structures collapsed after a series of temblors hit Itbayat, Batanes in July. The quakes damaged schools, a hospital, and a church and left 9 dead.
The Mindanao quake struck 22 kilometers southeast of Tulunan, North Cotabato, leaving 5 people dead and 89 hurt.According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology , the Mindanao earthquake was possibly due to movement of a local fault in North Cotabato. The NDRRMC also warned of aftershocks.
“Aftershocks can happen. Some can be felt most likely in low intensities. But we cannot remove the possibility of similar intensities that can be felt in the epicentral area,” ended Ricardo.
