Mt. Pulag will be closed to the public starting Tuesday, due to the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 scare.

The park management of Mt. Pulag National Park announced the closure after the confirmed cases of COVID-19 saw a rise in the country.

"The park management is hereby closing the park today and onwards for public safety in concurrence with the Office of the Mayor, regional executive director, Protected Area Management Board chair and stakeholders,” the announcement added. This is also in pursuant to Executive Order 25-2020 by the Office of the Municipal Mayor that advises the “temporary closure of all tourism sites in the Municipality of Kabayan, Benguet.”

"To minimize the exposure to risk association with the Covid-19, there is a need to temporarily close not only tourism sites within the Mt. Pulag National Park but to include all tourism sites in the town," Kabayan Mayor Faustino Aquisan said. In the neighboring town in Itogon, Benguet mountain climbing activities at Mt. Ulap Eco-Trail are suspended until further notice as announced by the barangay local government unit.The country now has 33 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and a public health emergency was declared by President Rodrigo Duterte.
