Metro Manila mayors still want the National Capital Region (NCR) to remain under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) until the end of the year, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Jose Arturo “Jojo” Garcia said on Friday (November 27).

On October 1, Malacañang said NCR may be placed under Modified General Community Quarantine should the residents observe health and safety protocols set forth by the government.

Pres. Duterte is set to announce the quarantine protocols this coming Monday as current quarantine status of various areas in the country are set to expire by the end of the month. Meantime, on October 19, the Metro Manila Council – MMDA’s policy-making body composed of 17 mayors in the NCR – said they want the metropolis to be under GCQ until the end of the year.

Garcia said he last spoke with the local executives of the metropolis during a virtual meeting conducted two weeks ago.It can be recalled that Garcia earlier said the mayors want gradual adjustments to ensure that health and safety protocols will be strictly enforced to stop the spread of COVID-19 as the economy starts again.
