Seventy-eight “habal-habal” drivers have been apprehended by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) in eight days as the agency intensified its crackdown on “habal-habals” in the metropolis.

Based on data obtained by the Manila Bulletin, the motorcycle drivers were nabbed by the agency from Feb. 14 to Feb. 21.

She explained that colorum tickets are given to drivers caught with passengers, while the habal-habal tickets are issued to those drivers looking for passengers or offering a ride to commuters. “Should they commit a third offense, their motor vehicle registration will be revoked,” the agency spokesperson said.

The MMDA spokesperson said most of the habal-habal drivers stay at private establishments such as malls and other crowded places in the metropolis.

There is a reason why every corporation or company should at least be 60% Filipino-owned. To protect the interest of the people. Then let public utilities be 100% foreign owned? What's next? A bill allowing foreign land ownership? This Bill is fatally violative of the Constitution as it allows traditional public utilities like transportation and telecommunication companies to be owned by aliens or corporations which are wholly owned by foreigners. This is crazy. They are selling us and the Philippines
