Two of China's People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) vessels were detected but these ships did nothing to impede or interfere with the activities of the first multilateral maritime cooperative activity (MMCA) held this April 7 in the West Philippine Sea, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) chief-of-staff Gen.

The MMCA was held between naval ships and aircraft of the Philippines, United States, Japan and Australia. Also, he clarified that the MMCA is not aimed at any country or a show of force to intimidate any nation. “The MMCA demonstrated the participating countries’ commitment to strengthen regional and international cooperation in support of a free and open Indo-Pacific through interoperability exercises in the maritime domain. It will also contribute greatly to the AFP’s capability development,” AFP public affairs office chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad earlier said.
