Miriam Quiambao has mixed emotions over the major change happening in Philippine pageantry.

It was early December when Binibining Pilipinas Charities Inc. confirmed that the organization, led by Stella Marquez Araneta, will no longer be the one to crown the country’s representative to the Miss Universe pageant.

Now, the search for Miss Universe Philippines will have its separate pageant headed by 2011 titlist Shamcey Supsup. Although BPCI has become instrumental in fulfilling certain woman’s dream of becoming a beauty queen, the Miss Universe 1999 first runner-up thinks that, perhaps, it’s time for a new breed of organizers to come in.“Nabuksan ang mga pinto. Binigyan nila ng pagkakataon. I am very thankful to BPCI…” she said in part.
