A C130 military plane crashed in Patikul, Sulu after it"missed the runway trying to regain power" before noon on Sunday, July 4, the military said.

"We are doing our best effort to rescue the passengers," Armed Forces of the Philippines chief General Cirilito Sobejana said in an interview with defense reporters on Sunday. He said around 40 people have been rescued on the scene and brought to the hospital at the 11th Infantry Division in Busbus town in Sulu.

He could not immediately confirm the total number of passengers the plane carried, although initial military reports from the ground showed the plane carried at least 84 Army soldiers, 3 pilots and 5 crew.
