Meralco relied on a strong finishing kick in the final period to post a come-from-behind 97-93 triumph against NLEX and draw first blood in their PBA Philippine Cup quarterfinals duel on Friday, May 10, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Veterans Allein Maliksi and Bong Quinto combined for 14 of the Bolts' 24 fourth-quarter points, while the team's bench completely overwhelmed NLEX to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-three series. Meralco pulled off the gutsy win behind its balanced scoring attack that saw six players logging in 12 or more points to negate Robert Bolick's career-high 48 points for NLEX .
