The Manila Electric Company on Friday addressed the"bill shock" experienced by its customers following online complaints from residents over the high electricity bill they received this month.
It said the electricity bill received in May may be significantly steeper compared to those from the past months. The electric service provider said the March and April bills were estimated based on the average daily consumption from December 2019, January 2020, and February 2020 — when customers typically consumed less electricity as the weather was significantly cooler.

Meralco is charging us all our consumption at once in May, causing consumers to be charged for their usage at the highest applicable rate. As opposed to allocating the lower tier rates each month first. Check your bills!

meralco di ba simple lang. Meter reading for May less last meter reading (March) = consumed electricity for the 2 months. Then, i-less nila yung nasa April bill sa May billing. Mahirap ba? Ano yung estimate na sinasabi?

Doesn't really explain why meralco would charge closed businesses the same bill amount for when they're operational. No one was using the facilities during quarantine.
If Meralco based their billing on customers' average consumption, as they claimed, why is it that all customers are claiming that their billed doubled, mine tripled this May?
Take a picture of you eletric meters so that you have evidence.

Incorrect. Only my April bill was an averaged bill. March bill the meter was read accurately. May bill is horrific.

There’s no mention in this article of any error on the part of Meralco, is that right? I’ve seen the complaints here in twitter and they ALL say the same thing. I would love to hear Meralco’s take on this.

i am using meralco k-load. no one is in the house since quarantine but i was billed 7000+ for april and may?highest bill ever. i was not charged daily but at the end of the month they made an adjustment. how can meralco explain my bill?
