With the exception of K-pop concerts that are entirely in a league all their own, here are the ones that enjoyed loud buzz. This one-night-only concert held Feb. 9 at the Newport Performing Arts Theater at Resorts World Manila was nostalgic for the titos and titas of Manila.
The highlight was when they traded hits. Ever heard Ely sing “Beer?” Or Itchyworms doing “Ang Huling El Bimbo?” It was all there and more.Moira dela Torre took it to the next level when she held the “Brave” concert at the Araneta Coliseum. One of the most applauded numbers was her duet with Daniel Padilla on the song “Mabagal,” which eventually won the grand prize in this year’s Himig Handog Songwriting Competition.
The two-night concert was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and it was jam-packed. It was nice seeing Nicky Byrne, Kian Egan, Markus Feehily and Shane Filan.Maroon 5 headed back to Asia this year in support of their latest record, “Red Pill Blues.” The Philippine leg was held at the Mall of Asia Arena. It was their fifth time in Manila.
The two performed “All I Ask of You” and “The Prayer.” Talk about professionalism. Josh’s hits “You Raise Me Up,” “To Where You Are,” “Vincent,” “You’re Still You,” and “Broken Vow” made the night divine.
But the concert became historical, not only as it ended four decades of waiting for the fans, but because the Irish rock band honored several notable Filipino women. It was during the encore of the show when lead singer Bono, known worldwide as social and political activist, talked about “women who came together to rewrite history.
