The city government has secured an advance purchase of 800,000 COVID-19 vaccines from the British-Swedish biopharmaceutical company AstraZeneca.Budget Secretary Wendel Avisado on Feb. 12 said the Government Procurement Reform Act only allows advance payment equivalent to only a maximum of 15 percent of the cost of government-financed projects.
President Duterte signed on Feb. 18 a memorandum order increasing the limit for advanced payments for the purchase of COVID-19 vaccines.“Let’s keep practicing the health protocols mandated by the Department of Health and let’s keep refining our mass vaccination simulation exercises, “Domagoso said.The city government is ready for the arrival of the vaccines after its COVID-19 Vaccine Storage Facility at Sta. Ana Hospital officially opened on Feb. 11.
The local chief executive repeatedly said that mass vaccination is the key to the city’s economic recovery. The city government also launched manilacovid19vaccine.com, a website where people can pre-register if they want to get vaccinated. Over 88,000 individuals have already pre-registered for the COVID-19 vaccine.Domagoso urged people to get vaccinated as the city government will be giving away free vaccines. He is also willing to be the first to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to assure those who are wary about getting inoculated.
