Senator Imee R. Marcos on Monday confronted the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) for allowing manufacturers to increase the price of “Noche Buena” (Christmas Eve feast) products that Filipinos usually buy for the Christmas season.

Marcos was reacting to the approval by DTI Secretary Ramon Lopez of the suggested retail price of some “Noche Buena” products.

Marcos labeled Lopez as a “killjoy” for stating that the P3 to P20 increase of the price of ham was negligible. ‘’Pero lalong hindi na makatitikim ng ham ang mahihirap na Pinoy sa kanilang noche Buena kung ganito na kamahal ang presyo,” Marcos said. • 500g King Sue Hawaiian ham – P140 from the usual P137• 500g Virginia Brick Ham – P189 from P169432g Seasons tropical fruit cocktail – P50.35 from the usual P49.• 432g Dole tropical fruit cocktail – P55.15 from P53.50.

The SRP of Eden-filled cheese is now pegged at P49.50, up from P48.50, while a 180-gram Danes classic cheese increased to P48.The SRP for a 400g Del Monte spaghetti rose to 52.25 mula from P49.10. Marcos strongly suggested that the DTI freezes its SRPs on these products to allow Filipinos enjoy “Noche Buena”.
