President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday highlighted the role of an irrigation system in ensuring food security in the southern portion of the Philippines.

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday highlighted the role of an irrigation system in ensuring food security in the southern portion of the Philippines.This as Marcos led the inauguration of the Malitubog-Maridagao Irrigation Project Stage II in the municipality of Pikit, Cotabato .''With this irrigation project, the land will become a fertile field of grain.

This irrigation would water not only the crops that we grow, but the peace that we want to take root in this land,'' the President added.The P5.133-billion project covers a total agricultural land area of 9,528 hectares in the provinces of North Cotabato and Maguindanao del Sur.Once operational, it is seen to benefit more than 4,000 farmers amid the adverse impacts of the El Niño phenomenon in the country, with a projected harvest of over 110 cavans of rice per hectare.
