President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has discouraged renting out housing units availed from the government’s housing program in order not to defeat its purpose of providing shelter to those in need.

President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr. joins Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar in the groundbreaking ceremony of a housing project in Cebu City on Feb. 27, 2023.

In an interview on Monday, Feb. 27, Marcos said the renting system has been a problem faced by the government which is now being addressed. “Kung kaya nila na ipa-rent out hindi nila kailangan yung tirahan. Ibibigay na lang natin doon sa whoever is — kung sinoman talaga ang nangangailangan na wala silang ibang titirahan ,” Marcos said. The President further said the government is now coming up with a system to prevent the transferring of units.housing project in Cebu CityHe disclosed that the government is close to groundbreaking about 600,000 houses as it intends to build one million houses a year until 2028.

He said whether the government reaches the target or not, they will have to add the unbuilt units to next years’ goal. “So siguro baka – basta ang target talaga namin one million a month – a year, one million a year. Basta’t gagawin namin para paabutin. Kung hindi tayo makahabol this year, eh papaspas natin yung mga next years para yung average natin one million a year pa rin ,” Marcos said.
