Manila Mayor Francisco Isko Moreno Domagoso mourned the death of performance artist and cultural activist Carlos Celdran who passed away on Tuesday.

“Nawalan na naman kami ng isang promoter, isang tagapagtaguyod ng kasaysayan ng mga magagandang aral na puwedeng matutunan sa ating mahal na Lungsod, , ” Domagoso said on Wednesday.

The Mayor said the artist’s efforts boosted Manila’s tourism and heritage such as the revival of the Binondo Food Walk. “Whatever he is doing in Manila is also kapakinabangan ng bansa because what he is telling everybody is our history and places to go that generates jobs and businesses,” the mayor said.“If we lose these type of people doing it for free just for the love of the city, it is a great loss for the city of Manila,” he added.

In September 2010, Celdran, 46, wearing a black suit, staged a protest during a mass inside the Manila Cathedral. It was directed against the position taken by the Catholic Church against the then Reproductive Health Bill.He also launched Manila Biennale art festival in Intramuros in 2018.
