Malacañang is hopeful that justice will be served for the death of radio broadcaster Eduardo Dizon following the surrender of one of the suspects behind his murder.

Presidential Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said they hope the surrender of suspect Sotero Jacolbe would help in the resolution of the killing of the journalist.

“We welcome the latest development in the case of slain Brigade New FM Radio broadcaster Eduardo Dizon. Though the authorities have yet to determine suspect Sotero Jacolbe’s involvement in the case, we are hopeful that his surrender to the Kidapawan police will aid in the progress of solving Dizon’s murder,” Andanar said.

“The PCOO commiserates with Dizon’s family and hopes that justice will be served for the death of their loved one,” he added. Jacolbe reportedly surrendered to police authorities in Kidapawan City after a court issued an arrest warrant against him. Two other suspects are reportedly still at large. The suspects are facing murder charges in connection with the death of Dizon before a Kidapawan court.

Andanar meantime assured that the government would continue to protect press freedom as well as the rights of journalists.“We promise that the Duterte administration will continue to make strides in protecting press freedom in the country and the rights of the members of the press,” he added.
