Magnolia defeated skidding Blackwater, 81-77, to claim its third straight win and enhance its chances for a top 4 finish in the elimination round of the PBA Philippine Cup Wednesday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila.

Engaged in a 34-34 standoff, the Hotshots leaned on Jio Jalalon and James Laput's third quarter exploits as the duo combined to score 14 of the team's 22 points to give Magnolia a 56-45 lead.The Bossing tried to rally behind rookie James Kweukuteye and Troy Rosario's efforts, but the Hotshots played steadier down the stretch to improve to 4-2 overall. Mark Barroca and Jerrick Ahanmisi of Magnolia try to steal the ball from Troy Rosario of Blackwater.

PBA IMAGEVeteran Mark Barroca's steady leadership proved vital as he went in to lead Magnolia with 19 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Calvin Abueva was a bundle of energy with 10 points and 13 boards.Ian Sangalang and Paul Lee scored 10 points apiece, while Laput finished with nine in a balanced scoring attack for the resurgent Magnolia. Kwekuteye led Blackwater with 23 points, the second consecutive game this conference where he scored 20 or more.
