Two more city bus routes will be opened on Tuesday after many commuters were stranded in parts of Metro Manila due to the lack of public transportation on the first day of the region’s shift to general community quarantine , the Department of Transportation announced on June 1.According to the DOTr, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board will launch Route 5 from Angat, Bulacan to Quezon Avenue in Quezon City, and Route 28 from Dasmariñas, Cavite to Metro Manila.

The LTFRB has so far authorized 510 units for the Angat-Quezon Avenue route, and 151 units for the Dasmariñas-NCR route, Libiran added. The DOTr earlier announced that mass public transportation in Metro Manila will gradually resume in two phases during GCQ — June 1 to 21 for the first phase, and June 22 to 30 for the second phase.

In the second phase, all public utility buses, modern jeepneys, and UV Express vans will be permitted back on the road but also with limited passenger capacity, the DOTr added.
