The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) reopened more than 40 pre-pandemic routes for public utility jeepneys (PUJ) in the National Capital Region.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board reopened more than 40 pre-pandemic routes for public utility jeepneys in the National Capital Region, according to Joseph Morong’s report on “24 Oras” on Tuesday.

“Una, additional units o kaya public transport for the riding public. Pangalwa, 'yung ating mga kababayan, mas madali silang makakasakay sa usual nilang routes dahil pre-pandemic routes ito na maaaring ito 'yung nakasanayan na nila,” said LTFRB Technical Division Chief Joel Bolano. For his part, Pasang Masda president Obet Martin said the decision means livelihood for PUJ drivers hard-hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Around 9,000 PUJ drivers are set to return to the streets due to the memorandum circular, the report said.
