Iran reported 12 more deaths on Monday, raising the country's toll to 66, the second biggest after China's, while its overall number of cases rose to 1,501.Many Filipinos are cooped up at home after Iranian authorities discouraged public gatherings, including Masses, said Filipino-Iranian Community Association president Ma. Lolita Tiangco-Khatami.
The virus also forced the suspension of classes and closures of many restaurants. Some banks and businesses also halved office hours, she said. "Medyo malungkot kasi most of us andito lang kami sa bahay, hindi kami lumalabas. E alam mo naman ang mga Pilipino, very sociable," said Tiangco-Khatami, who has been based in Iran for 35 years. Iran hosts nearly 1,200 Filipino workers, with the number excluding those who married Iranians, Tiangco-Khatami said, citing information from the Philippine embassy.
