During the hybrid hearing of the Senate Committees on Finance and Economic Affairs on Friday, May 29, Air Carriers Association of the Philippines vice chairman Robert Lim lobbied anew for assistance programs for the aviation sector whose operations were stunted by the travel restrictions imposed to contain the virus.
The group asked the Senate to grant them relief through credit facilities and guarantee schemes, waiver of navigational charges, restructuring of loans, and relaxation of government regulatory standards on banks. “These are not hand outs because we will repay them. These are loans,” Lim clarified. “But, again, we really need to be really careful with our wording, that the provisions will strictly say that the ones that are serious, capable and maybe the ones that are truly providing jobs,” said Poe, who cited limited government resources.
