“Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001.”

In a message on Monday, Laban Konsyumer Inc. President President Victorio Mario Dimagiba said the government could seek the legal services of Solicitor General Jose Calida in taking back the franchise of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines and return it to the National Transmission Corp. .

Epira was enacted in June 2001 to institute reforms in the Philippine power industry. It organized the industry into four sectors: generation, transmission, distribution and supply. NGCP — a consortium of Monte Oro Grid Resources Corp., Calaca High Power Corp. and the State Grid Corp. of China — holds a 25-year concession contract and the 50-year franchise to operate the power transmission network by virtue of RA 9511, signed on Jan. 15, 2009.Also, Dimagiba said it was high time for the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System to lower water rates so consumers can feel relief in paying water bills.
