Lawmakers proposed on Sunday that all patients, including those who succumbed to pneumonia, be subjected to COVID-19 testing.

Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor and Quezon City Rep. Precious Hipolito Castelo urged the Department of Health to conduct COVID-19 tests to all pneumonia patients.

He said those who had close contact with the patient with the virus might be unknowingly spreading the disease. Castelo shared the same concern after receiving information that some poor patients in Quezon City who succumbed to pneumonia were buried without being tested for COVID-19. “We need to intervene. We need to be cautious. We need to quarantine the family. We need to do contact tracing. We have to do all those to stop the cycle of infection. Otherwise, we might be the next Italy,” Castelo said.
