The Lapu-Lapu City Government plans to give cash incentives to Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)-free barangays.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan said that this is done to encourage barangay officials to intensify their campaign against the deadly virus.

Ug ang kapitan nagpakabana, maningkamot sab to siya kay there is an incentive,” Chan said.

Chan, however, said that they will still need to plan first on how to implement such an initiative. They will also need to determine first the amount they will give to a COVID-free barangay, especially that the city’s budget is already depleted. “Well mao na’y atong tun-an. Tan-awon nato sa atong budget,” he added.

Based on the monitoring of the City Health Office , as of September 6, 2021, out of 30 barangays, only three remain COVID-free. These are Barangay Caw-oy, Caohagan, and Caubian.
