Kristina Knott shattered the national 100m dash record held by Lydia de Vega for 33 years with a silver-medal finish in the Drake Blue Oval Showcase in Iowa on Sunday, August 30., the Filipino-American Knott clocked in 11.27 seconds to eclipse by a whisker the 11.28 seconds mark set by De Vega in the 1987 Southeast Asian Games.
As the coronavirus pandemic limited athletics events, Knott has been training under a hybrid skills and strength and conditioning program conducted online since August. Juico said he is"hopeful" that Knott will qualify for the Tokyo Olympics in the 100m and 200m events with a year left before the Games.
Knott is .12 seconds behind the Olympic qualifying time in the 100m and .21 seconds behind in the 200m. Other Filipino bets vying for an Olympic berth are Eric Cray, William Morrison, Natalie Uy, and Christine Hallasgo.
