JRU tracksters score 3-peat; Junior Altas win 2nd straight title

Dennis AbrinaThe National Collegiate Athletic Association track and field event returned Saturday in Season 99, with host Jose Rizal University and Perpetual Help emerging champions at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

Southeast Asian Games relay gold winner Frederick Ramirez delivered a pair of record-breaking feats to power Jose Rizal University to the three-peat and 10th title oveall. Ramirez clocked 46.95 seconds in the 400m to erase the 48.03 mark he set last year and then timed in 21.43 in the 200m to eclipse the 21.93 standard Russel Galleon of JRU registered six years ago.

Meanwhile, the Junior Altas collected a total of 804.5 points in 18 events to claim their second title with a 153-point margin over 1st runner-up Jose Rizal University with 657.25 points. Second runner-up was Arellano University 503 points in the junior division.
