Suzuki made the announcement after inspecting the National Printing Bureau in Tokyo, noting that the circulation of the new 10,000-yen note, 5,000-yen note and 1,000-yen note is scheduled to begin in the first half of July next year.
Cutting-edge technologies to prevent counterfeiting include the world's first hologram that makes the portraits appear to move three-dimensionally when the notes are tilted, public broadcaster NHK reported the same day. The Japanese government plans to print 4.53 billion new banknotes by the end of March next year and put the necessary amount of notes into circulation starting in July, according to NHK.
