I am still in Seoul now where South Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol declared a state of national mourning until November 5. This is the worst tragedy that hit South Korea since the Sewol ferry sank in 2014 killing 304, mostly high school students. In Itaewon, the victims were mostly young women in their 20s.We did not witness the mayhem that resulted in the crushing of bodies. But we did see the crowded narrow alleyway 30 minutes before the tragic incident happened.
That's where we saw the narrow alley where the crushing would happen minutes later. My husband was holding the hands of our two daughters. I was navigating by guessing through what little I could squeeze out of Google maps. South Korea does not allow Google to access its maps via biking, driving or walking. Since it is still at war with North Korea, it has restricted foreign servers access to its mapping data.
