Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned Wednesday that Israel's 'disproportionate response' in Gaza risks 'destabilizing the Middle East, and as a consequence, the entire world.'

MADRID — Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez warned Wednesday that Israel 's "disproportionate response" in Gaza risks "destabilizing the Middle East, and as a consequence, the entire world."Sanchez also insisted that the recognition of a Palestinian state, long resisted by Israel and its key allies, is "in Europe's geopolitical interests.

Australia, meanwhile, on Tuesday became the latest country to advocate formal recognition of a Palestinian state.Sanchez is also due to meet with several other leaders, including those of Norway and Portugal, in the coming days to discuss the issue, Spanish government spokeswoman Pilar Alegria said on Tuesday.
