Int'l Criminal Court's next step in Duterte drug war to come in 2020

MANILA, Philippines – International Criminal Court Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda will decide by 2020 whether she will seek authorization to open an investigation into the high number of killings in President Rodrigo Duterte's war on drugs.

"It has also been alleged that in several incidents, relatives of the victims witnessed the killings, thereby sustaining serious mental suffering."Bensouda said she is also looking at Senate committee hearings in assessing admissibility of the case, which would depend on the complementarity or even the gravity of the situation.

If she decides to open an investigation, Bensouda will seek the authority of the pre-trial chamber or PTC. Once granted, the PTC judges can issue summons and even arrest orders.
