LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc honored five young mathematics wizards from Sarrat National High School (SNHS) who bagged awards at the  Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad from August 25 to 28. 

LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte – Ilocos Norte Gov. Matthew Marcos Manotoc honored five young mathematics wizards from Sarrat National High School who bagged awards at the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad from August 25 to 28.

They are Brian Jansen Vallejo, Allen Iver Barroga, Zyrene Angelica Dulluog, Natalie Margaret Balisacan, and Maria Cassandra Reich Doque. They were accompanied by their coaches Michael Malvar, Agnes Calilao, and Jenifer Balisacan during their courtesy visit to the provincial capitol here. The team won one World Champion award, one World Star award, two World first runner-up titles, and five Gold awards during the Olympiad participated in by 17 countries from Asia, Europe, Africa, and Oceania.Malvar thanked the provincial government and the Provincial Education Office for their support which was instrumental in allowing the team to compete on the international level.

Gervy Gumarit, head of the capitol's Communication and Media Office , the team is again gearing up to compete in the World International Math Olympiad in Hanoi, Vietnam, in December.Gumarit cited that the SNHS is the first school in Ilocos Norte with a unique program for mathematics under the Department of Science and Technology.
