Iligan mayor suspends classes

Classes in all levels in both public and private schools in Iligan City have been suspended indefinitely starting today, March 13, following the confirmation of the first case of infection of the coronavirus disease 2019 in the city.

He said the task force recommended the suspension of classes after confirmation of the first Covid-19 patient, who was initially confined at the Adventist Medical Center in Iligan City.He said the EO also banned the holding of graduation rites in schools, and other public and private mass gatherings, including the city’s flag ceremonies on Mondays.

Pantoja said the City Council authorized Mayor Regencia to procure protective gears for medical personnel of the private and public hospitals in the city. The patient, a 54-year-old male from Marawi City, was confined at the Adventist Medical Center on March 3 after complaining of cough, cold, fever and headaches. He told DoH personnel that he came from San Juan, Manila before he was admitted to the hospital.Meanwhile, Health officials in Northern Mindanao also on Thursday allayed fears over the threat of possible spread of the new coronavirus with the transfer of the patient to Cagayan de Oro City.
