Emergency crews raced on Thursday to reach stranded Florida residents as Hurricane Ian trained its sights on the Carolinas after cutting a coast-to-coast path of destruction across Florida.

Ian, one of the strongest storms ever to hit the US mainland, flooded Gulf Coast communities and knocked out power to millions before plowing across the peninsula to the Atlantic Ocean, where it regained strength ahead of another anticipated landfall in South Carolina on Friday.President Joe Biden, speaking at Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington, said Ian could prove to be the deadliest in state history.

A 72-year-old man in Deltona in central Florida died after he went outside during the storm to drain his pool, authorities said. The storm was churning off Florida's eastern coast, about 240 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina, according to the US National Hurricane Center. A hurricane warning was in effect for approximately 230 miles of coastline from the South Carolina-Georgia border north to Cape Fear, North Carolina.

The storm transformed Florida's southwestern shoreline, dotted with sandy beaches, coastal towns and mobile home parks, into a disaster zone as Ian swept seawater into waterfront homes. Kurt Hoffman, sheriff of Sarasota County, told residents in a Twitter post that there were more than 500 calls for help. The search for loved ones was made more difficult as cellphone services were often cut.

"It was insane," local landscaper Jeffrey Chambers, 53, said, describing sideways rain that erased all visibility. "I was like 'Please stop already, just stop.' And it kept going and going."

Dela Rosa inclined to support bills legalizing medical marijuana"Wala pa akong naririnig na opinyon galing from the Department of Health. Presently, my stand is tilting towards allowing medical marijuana... Unless magbago yung aking isip kung, merong very strong adverse opinion ang Department of Health pagdating sa bagay na yan. But as of now, wala pa akong naririnig. So I am inclined to support not only for health reasons kundi pati economic reasons," Dela Rosa said in an interview with reporters. For Recreational purposes kasi bet nya? 🤭 Sen De La Rosa should think of the alternatives and there are many, traditional or herbal, which are not habit forming. He should think of the what is beneficial to the greater public. How many cancer patients are there compared to the general public. Hmmm what happened to their drug war? Allowing Marijuana for medicinal purposes is just a farce to let it in the open market for 'high' people to enjoy 😉
