The city government of Cauayan in Isabela is set to launch rolling stores dubbed as "Grocery on Wheels" that will go around barangays to ease the burden of residents on mandatory home quarantine to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 .
As part of the strict implementation of the lockdown in Luzon, residents are advised to stay at home and only one member of their family is allowed to go out to buy food and other essential items.Cauayan City Mayor Bernard Dy said they have already met with the management of supermarkets and groceries to discuss guidelines on the implementation of rolling stores.
Dy added that the rolling stores will address some of the problems that arise from the implementation of the lockdown such as the prohibition of mass transportation and non-compliance on the social distancing measure against COVID-19. The national government placed Luzon under lockdown at midnight Tuesday, ordering people to stay indoors, suspending school, work, and mass transport, and shuttering businesses except those selling basic goods, in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.
As of Thursday, the Philippines has recorded 217 cases of the virus, with 17 deaths and 8 recoveries.
