Shortly after being released from her short detention for protesting the expansion of a coal mine in Germany, Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg took to Twitter to confirm her presence at the protest and to share what happened. "I was part of a group that peacefully protested the expansion of a coal mine in Germany," she began.

"We were kettled by police and then detained but were let go later that evening," Thunberg continued. According to police, the activists were not formally arrested. They were simply "taken away from the 'danger zone' by bus, their identities were checked, and then they were released,"Thunberg had been in Germany to support the thousand of demonstrators against the demolition of Luetzerath, a village in Germany that's been deserted for some time and is now being razed to make way for the expansion of the Garzweiler open-cast coal mine, operated by energy firm RWE.
