THE Sugar Regulatory Administration (SRA) on Wednesday is considering distributing smuggled sugar seized by the Bureau of Customs (BoC) and other products sold at government-supported Kadiwa stores to supermarkets to broaden access to the commodity.

During the Laging Handa public briefing, SRA Acting Administrator Pablo Luis Azcona said that major supermarket chains have offered space for Kadiwa goods to broaden their distribution.'We're actually finalizing po kung paano natin gawin ito, kasi this started out when the big supermarket chains signified po na they want to volunteer a space, libre po ito ,' Azcona said.

The SRA chief said the target suggested retail price would be P70 per kilo, which is the same price of sugar in Kadiwa stores. He made the statement after the agency was called over high sugar prices despite the arrival of thousands of metric tons of imported sugar.According to DA price monitors, the prevailing market price of refined sugar in Metro Manila as of Tuesday was between P86 and P110, washed sugar P80 to P95, and brown sugar P35 to P95.
