The decision also came after the Department of Foreign Affairs raised the highet alert level in the wake of violence between forces allied with President Salva Kiir and former Vice President Riek Machar.

Filipino workers can no longer seek employment in South Sudan because of escalating violence in the Central African country, the Department of Labor and Employment said in a statement Monday.

The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, which is chaired by Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III, imposed the total ban on processing and deployment to South Sudan until further notice.
