Gaming arcades, cinemas, and several other businesses in general community quarantine areas will be closed for over two weeks to curb the rise in COVID-19 cases.

The government also reduced the capacity allowed for the following events:Religious gatherings - 30% capacityThe scaling back is also similar to the stricter GCQ enforced before February.

Before February, religious gatherings were only allowed to occupy 30% of a venue and cinemas, arcades, museums, and the like were still prohibited under that community quarantine. The new restrictions were supported by the Department of Trade and Industry, which had previously pushed for relaxing economic restrictions back when COVID-19 transmissions were deemed relatively stable.Malacañang denied that the reopening of the economy had contributed to the rise in cases.

This was contradicted by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III who had identified it as a contributing factor. The Philippines has 640,984 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of Thursday, March 18. The death is at 12,887, while the recoveries are at 561,530. Of the total cases, 66,567 are active – the highest since September 19, 2020, when there were 68,645 active cases.
