MANILA — The Philippines eyes using a third type of coronavirus screening that can yield results in 30 minutes and help authorities reach their target of running 32,000 tests a day, an official said Thursday.
The antigen test requires an individual's specimen to be mixed with a solution and placed on the kit. It tries to detect the presence of a part of the novel coronavirus. It is "more accurate" than rapid test kits that detect the presence of antibodies that a person with COVID-19 develops, he said. The Philippines has screened 1.19 million Filipinos for the novel coronavirus through the nasal swab test, often dubbed by experts as the "gold standard," said Nograles.
