Gov't eyes 30,000 daily COVID-19 tests in PH by end of May

MANILA—The Philippines is planning to conduct 30,000 COVID-19 tests by the end of May in efforts to slow down the number of infections.

Galvez said that on May 15 about 15,000 daily COVID-19 tests will be conducted in the country to curb the virus, in the hopes that a significant decrease in virus cases would prompt the lifting of the enhanced community quarantine in parts of the country.

Testing is not the end in itself. Anyone found positive must be quarantined at designated sites for such and contact tracing a must to further flatten the curve preventing virus infections resurgence until vaccine or effective medicine is found specific to the virus.

What's this, a moving target? Did they get anywhere near the April target?

We haven't even hit 8,000 tests a day

Did DOH say how they will achieve this? Right now we’re only doing 4000+ per day. Such a dramatic jump. What about the backlogs on test results ? Are they also planning something dramatic about these? I hope so.

The government should stop announcing their testing plans. Just do it for heaven's sake.
