Globe's efforts vs. text scamsIn a statement, Globe said the number of scam and spam messages it blocked last year was more than double its 2021 record of 1.15 billion.
One of the country's major telco players also blocked 83.4 million bank-related spam messages last year. To achieve this, Globe partnered with major commercial banks and online retailers in the country to ensure quick and efficient information exchange for a more efficient response to spam and fraud SMS.
With our relentless proactive blocking efforts and implementation of the new law, we are taking great strides in our campaign to end text fraud, Bonifacio said. In an industry first, the telco has also started blocking person-to-person SMS with clickable URLs from all networks in September last year amid growing concern about the spread of scam and spam messages, specifically those that contain mobile users' full names.
