Gilas Pilipinas leads PSA's October sports heroes

HANGZHOU—­The Asian Games in Hangzhou witnessed some world-class performances over two weeks of action in 40 sports. AFP Sport picks out five who excelled: Shanti Pereira - athletics The 27-year-old sprinter took a leap of faith earlier this year and was rewarded in Hangzhou with 200m gold. Taking the cue from the champs, muay thai aces Rhichein Yosorez and Alyssa Kylie Mallari , jiu-jitsu’s Kaila Napolis and taekwondo’s Darius Venerable won golds in the World Combat Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.Para athletes continued the Philippine roll, winning 10 gold, four silver and five bronze medals in the Hangzhou Asian Para Games for the ninth overall and country’s best ever showing.
