The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Thursday, Aug. 3 welcomed the Green Economy Program (GEP) which can help the Philippines to deal with climate change problems.

"They have a Green Environment [Economic Program] funded by the EU . I think that's a great project, especially in the Philippines; we are the biggest polluter of plastic in the whole world when it comes from plastics coming to our river," DOST Balik Scientist Hernando Bacosa said in a public briefing via PTV.

He stressed that the rising sea level in the Philippines is double compared to the world average because we are archipelagic and very close to the shore. The GEP was a bilateral agreement signed by the Philippines and the EU that aims for a "sustainable future."
