Gatchalian wants DepEd to finalize health insurance for teachers

Though the DepEd is already in talks with the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. , the Employees’ Compensation Commission and the Government Services Insurance System , Gatchalian said it is crucial to finalize and roll out these partnerships before the opening of classes, since teachers would be vulnerable to the COVID-19 when they go about distributing self-learning modules for students.

The senator said addressing the concern of teachers amid uncertainties during this time of a COVID-19 pandemic is the best way to celebrate National Teachers’ Month. He said teachers should be assured of health care support, including coverage for hospitalization, medication and treatment should they test positive for COVID-19.
